Conferences: Research Dissemination

In general, at least once a month, lectures are given by members of the ANC or by national and international academics and researchers suggested or recommended by members. The lectures are open to the general public and seek to disseminate the results of research carried out by the scientific community, focusing on current topics of interest to citizens.

Promoting scientific vocations

The program seeks to foster scientific vocations in Costa Rican students through various activities such as conferences, video conferences, workshops and scientific awards.

The following activities were carried out this year: (Click and the activities carried out during the year in said program will be displayed)

  • INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE: 

The National Academy of Sciences together with the San José Planetarium celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The performance “Stars: myths and legends” was held and, in addition, they took part in a workshop and a conference given by Dr. Lela Taliashvilli. Attendance of 25 girls between 9 and 12 years old 

  • CAMP LA NIÑA, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: 

In the framework of the commemoration of International Women's Day, the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (TEC) in conjunction with the UNED Nicoya campus and the National Academy of Sciences organized the "Girls, Science and Technology Camp" on March 8. 120 girls between 9 and 12 years old from various schools in the Guanacaste canton of Nicoya participated.

  • SUPER SCIENTIFIC GIRLS PROJECT: MONTH OF SCIENCE

As part of Science Month, on August 10, through the Super Scientist Girls Project, of which the National Academy of Sciences is a part, 30 girls from different parts of our country, including places like Upala and San Vito de Coto Brus, visited the San José Planetarium at the University of Costa Rica where they participated in a performance and interactive workshops.

TICOTAL

The TICOTAL Network, Network of Costa Rican Talent Abroad, is a program of the National Academy of Sciences that brings together Costa Rican scientists and engineers who study or work abroad. The network seeks to connect them with the scientific and technological work of the country by establishing a permanent instrument of interaction that facilitates the exchange of ideas, contacts and experiences and identifies opportunities for cooperation.

Public policy analysis in research

This project consists of a critical and prospective analysis of research and technological innovation initiatives, providing government agencies and the private sector with qualified advice and guidance of a high scientific level. This is done in order to promote better decisions, increase the body of knowledge and strengthen the social and productive progress of the nation. The National Academy of Sciences seeks to provide contributions of great scientific value through analytical instruments produced on topics of great importance to the country.

Dissemination of scientific information

The project aims to make new, dynamic and current scientific information available to citizens, using computer tools, social networks, a YouTube channel and through the ANC website. The main source of information is academics, research centers within and outside the country, as well as national and international scientists.
