NIC Costa Rica

Since the Academy is an institution that enjoys autonomy and operates under altruistic and non-profit objectives, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) granted it the .cr Top Domain for Costa Rica with the objective of coordinating and managing the domain name registration service. This activity is carried out by the specialized unit NIC Costa Rica (Network Information Center). In addition, NIC Costa Rica is in charge of the Internet Neutral Exchange Point (CRIX), which was declared of public interest with declaration No. 38388-MICITT. This project allows local traffic to be maintained within the country's borders by enabling Internet service providers to connect at the same point. Also, its NIC Costa Rica Unit coordinates the Internet Advisory Council (CCI) which is based on the Multi-Stakeholder Model, and is a world reference in Internet Governance. This Council was created in October 2012 with the aim of promoting discussion on the development of the Internet in Costa Rica as a means to contribute to the development of the country and improve the quality of life of Costa Ricans.

The NIC Costa Rica administration presents an annual report to the Academy's General Assembly.
