Complete list of all persons who are members of the National Academy of Sciences

Full Academicians

Costa Rican scientists who have made a significant contribution to the development of science will be considered full academics. They will be proposed by at least three academics and accepted by at least two thirds of the members of the General Assembly of the Academy, in a secret vote.

Corresponding Academics

Foreign scientists who have made a significant contribution to the development of science will be Corresponding Academicians. They will be proposed by at least three academicians and accepted by at least two-thirds of the members of the General Assembly of the Academy, in a secret ballot.

If a Full Academician of the Academy renounces Costa Rican nationality, he/she becomes a Corresponding Academician. 

If a Corresponding Academic of the academy acquires Costa Rican nationality, he or she becomes a Full Academic.

Emeritus Academicians

Emeritus Academicians are those full or corresponding academicians who, in the opinion of the Assembly, have made an extraordinary contribution to the advancement of science and the development of the Academy. They will be proposed by at least three members of the Academy and accepted by at least two thirds of the members of the General Assembly of the Academy, in a secret vote.
For now we do not have Emeritus Academics.

Honorary Academics

Honorary Academicians will be those scientists who, without having been members of the Academy, have, in the opinion of the General Assembly of the Academy, made an extraordinary and outstanding contribution to scientific research and scientific development in Costa Rica. They will be proposed by at least three academicians and accepted by at least two thirds of the members of the General Assembly of the Academy, in a secret vote.
