Guzm\u00e1n enfoca su \u00e1rea de investigaci\u00f3n en la ecolog\u00eda marina, biolog\u00eda de la conservaci\u00f3n, taxonom\u00eda, y ecolog\u00eda del movimiento de especies migratorias, que permita en lo posible la formulaci\u00f3n de pol\u00edticas ambientales. Maneja proyectos sobre los movimientos migratorios de especies marinas altamente migratorias (ballenas Jorobadas, Sei, Azules y Aleta, tiburones, tortugas, manat\u00edes, aves); la din\u00e1mica de poblaci\u00f3n, taxonom\u00eda y monitoreo a largo plazo de corales de arrecifes; la pesca de especies pel\u00e1gicas; los impactos humanos en ecosistemas marinos, manejo costero y contaminaci\u00f3n marina. Guzm\u00e1n ha publicado m\u00e1s de 210 manuscritos cient\u00edficos y contribuido en el desarrollo de 30 pol\u00edticas ambientales regionales y locales basadas en su investigaci\u00f3n b\u00e1sica.
