Su investigaci\u00f3n se ha centrado en la f\u00edsica nuclear y de altas energ\u00edas. Su trabajo de tesis condujo, en un experimento conjunto de las Universidades de Lausana, M\u00fanich y Z\u00farich en 1979, a la confirmaci\u00f3n de la ruptura de la simetr\u00eda de carga de las fuerzas nucleares. En colaboraci\u00f3n con Stanley Brodsky e Iv\u00e1n Schmidt investiga en 1990 las propiedades de una posible forma de materia nuclear catalizada por los quarks pesados, conocida como hadro-charmonio. En el 2009 introduce en conjunto con Brodsky una ecuaci\u00f3n de onda, similar a la ecuaci\u00f3n de Schr\u00f6dinger en f\u00edsica at\u00f3mica, para describir la estructura hadr\u00f3nica de la materia. Esta nueva perspectiva de las interacciones fuertes est\u00e1 basada en la dualidad hologr\u00e1fica entre la teor\u00eda cu\u00e1ntica y la gravedad, utilizando el marco de referencia del frente de luz. Mas recientemente, en colaboraci\u00f3n con Brodsky y Hans G\u00fcnter Dosch, se encontr\u00f3 que la simetr\u00eda de color en QCD y el confinamiento de los constituyentes se manifiestan como una estructura supersym\u00e9trica y conforme subyacente en las teor\u00edas hologr\u00e1ficas, lo que da origen a relaciones precisas entre las familias de los bariones y mesones, acorde con las observaciones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En enero de 1990 de T\u00e9ramond fue comisionado para establecer un nodo de la red BITNET en la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), el cual entr\u00f3 en operaci\u00f3n en noviembre 1990, seguido por la conexi\u00f3n de Panam\u00e1 al nodo de la UCR en 1992. Este proyecto fue seguido por la interconexi\u00f3n de Costa Rica a la red Internet en enero de 1993 y, unos meses m\u00e1s tarde, por el despliegue de la Red Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n (CRNet). En el marco de una colaboraci\u00f3n con el proyecto RedHUCyT de la Organizaci\u00f3n de Estados Americanos entre 1994 y 1997 se logr\u00f3 la interconexi\u00f3n de Nicaragua, Panam\u00e1, Honduras, Jamaica, Guatemala, El Salvador y Belice a la Internet. Unos a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde impuls\u00f3 desde el Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda la Red Internet Avanzada del ICE para llevar conectividad de banda ancha a trav\u00e9s del pa\u00eds, proyecto que se inaugur\u00f3 &nbsp;en el a\u00f1o 2001. Finalmente, en el 2014 contribuy\u00f3 al establecimiento del punto neutro de intercambio de tr\u00e1fico Internet CRIX entre todos los operadores del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ha contribuido activamente al desarrollo institucional como uno de los promotores del Programa de Postgrado en F\u00edsica de la UCR y de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias de Costa Rica. Fue director del Centro de Inform\u00e1tica de la UCR (1997-2000) y ministro de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda (2000-2002). Particip\u00f3 en la organizaci\u00f3n del Centro de Informaci\u00f3n de Redes (NIC), que administra el dominio superior CR, y del Consejo Consultivo de Internet para la gobernanza de Internet en el pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En el a\u00f1o 2020 de T\u00e9ramond recibi\u00f3 el Premio Wolfram para la Innovaci\u00f3n y en el 2023 ingres\u00f3 al Sal\u00f3n de la Fama de Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Publicaciones representativas:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>G.
